A "journalist" emailed me yesterday to ask me for an interview. I copied my book team (3 people) to handle and she replied by saying how "I have never had so many people involved in an author interview" and said it "raised flags."

She withdrew her request this morning.
Lemme tell you why this is completely off-putting. This woman, who is white, framed the fact that I have a book team handling my inquiries as if I am somehow being extra. And took affront to the system I have set up to maintain my boundaries and sanity during BOOK LAUNCH TIME.
My team is always respectful, efficient and responsive. This woman withdrew her request to interview me b/c she didn't like that I had a team. And it is so weird and also, something I have never seen happen.

The fragility.
This woman literally sent me an email w/ names of authors she has interviewed, basically comparing me to them and saying THEY didn't have teams.

Lady, I don't know what to tell you. My systems are organized and make sure we do not drop balls.

The caucasity was strong.
Her email today:

"After the conversation yesterday with your extended team,
and with the guidance of my editor, I am respectfully withdrawing my request for an interview with ******"

Peep the shade of that "extended team."

Btw, she's with a major outlet too.
My book team is actually like 20 people. Between my internal team, my publishers team and my publicists. I
ONLY looped this woman in with THREE people: my head publicist at PRH, my assistant, and my book agent.

She ain't even get the full force of the Luvvie Team. A mess.
By the way, here's some of the #ProfessionalTroublemaker book team:

My publishers are: @penguinrandom @VikingBooks
My publicists: @skaibluemedia
My agent: @kristynkeene
My editor: @megleder
My marketing lead: @lydiahirt

Shoutout to them!
Would love to write an op-ed on this. My DMs have been lit w/ Black women telling me how this triggered them because of how many microaggressions they have to deal with daily professionally.

Perceived power doesn't shield us from white people who wanna put us in our place.
