Boston’s so racist Bill Russell had to have his jersey retirement with no crowd in attendance.
Imagine bringing a city 11 championships and still get called Nigger on and off the court.
He endured all that while white people laughed in his face. I can’t imagine the bitterness he has inside but instead he just chooses not to express it publicly.
As long as I’ve been living all I’ve seen him be is gracious to all people who cross his path.
Instead of just being a grumpy old man (and I’d truly understand if he was) he’s just laughing and joking every single time you see him. He’s truly not appreciated enough.
I hope he’s truly enjoying his birthday today. Because if anybody from the NBA back then deserves flowers, it’s him.
