A lot of student nurses are really struggling right now. They aren't being supported properly in placement. They aren't being able to learn the clinical skills that they need to know. They don't want to complain because they need the hours, and placements are overfilled
They are being used to fill gaps in staffing (even those who are not being paid). Inexperienced students are being left to work things out for themselves. Often they don't feel supported by universities either. For many online learning is difficult
Often students feel they are not being taught, that they are teaching themselves, that different methods aren't being used to cater for different needs. Hours spent reading screens, for some very little live teaching.
Students are coming to their universities with issues, but feel they aren't being listened to. Students are physically and mentally burnt out. Students are dropping out. Students are loosing their passions.
Many do understand that this is not an easy time for unis either. They are willing to take some slack, but more and more covid seems to be an excuse. And some unis are doing better than others, some leave a lot to be desired.
I'm not sure what can be done but student nurses are in crisis.
Something needs to be done.
