A company firing someone because their public speech jeopardized other people's jobs is simply not the same as as government throwing someone in jail. The discussion in America on freedom of speech is so juvenile at times.
Someone working at a company can always find ways to express their speech without hurting their company. And, if they find this inconvenient, they can go work somewhere else.
In places like China, on the other hand, people are jailed not just for public speech, but for private speech as well. And once targeted by the government, there is no escape.
It is not as though they can use Twitter under a pseudonym, or find safety by just discussing issues privately on Facebook with friends.
There is simply no comparison with what companies in the West do to protect themselves from bad publicity and what totalitarian states do to control not just public--but private--discourse.
