Two extremes to avoid when a public Christian figure is exposed for serial sexual abuse:

1) "That could never be me."
2) "We're all one step away from being him."

Statement 1 minimizes the heinousness of your sin. But statement 2 minimizes the heinousness of *his* sin.
"For we all stumble in many ways." (James 3:2)

Repentance from sin is the daily reality of every Christian. This doesn't make serial sexual predation the same as the ordinary battles with anger, lust, or pride.
None of us should underestimate how un-repented sin can shape us into what we never expected. That is real and fearful.

But neither should we be unable to express full moral indignation at an outrageous instance of evil. It's not presumptuous to say, "This was terribly wicked."
