at what point can we take a step back and say that predators not only survive but actually thrive in evangelical spaces.
yesterday my TL was filled with stories of Ravi Zacharias, Carl Lentz, and Dave Ramsey. Three different models of how abusive, predatory behavior gets amplified and rewarded when it is cloaked in "expanding the work of the church"
I get it--if you are someone who gets financial or social standing from being invested in the evangelical church this sucks. But today is the day to step back and look at the patterns. Look at the fruit. Something is terribly, terribly rotten at the core.
And listen to me: I don't care if you respond/reply to this thread in silly, stupid, or defensive ways. But survivors of abuse are EVERYWHERE, and they are taking in every word of how people respond publicly.
In the upside-down kingdom of God it is the survivors, the truth-tellers, the abused and the powerless who are the ones who are blessed with spiritual leadership. Jesus told us this, time and time again. We have actively ignored and silenced them to our peril.
One last thing and then I need to calm down. Expressing your "shock" at how pastors/leaders/people known for their apologetics can be predators is . . . not helpful at this point. And it shows your (willful?) ignorance of abusive systems and how they work.
