Happy Friday! We have fresh new data at @angusreidorg on how Canadians are feeling about the @justintrudeau government's performance on #COVID19 vaccine procurement & rollout. Join me whilst I walk you through it.
So... here's the TL;DR. Canadians are even more angry than they were before about delays as they watch other countries (US, UK etc.) surge ahead with vaccine distribution....
In December, just 23% of the country said the federal government was doing a "bad job" securing vaccine. That number has nearly tripled in the last 60 days, while the number saying "good job" continues to tank:
Further, most people in Canada do not have confidence the timeline laid out by #PMJT - that everyone in this country who wants a vaccine will have one by September - is achievable:
Indeed, half the country is of the mindset that this target (everyone in Cda who wants a vaccine gets one) won't be achieved until spring 2022, at the earliest:
Against this backdrop, Cdns are pressed up against the proverbial glass watching the US ramp up vaccine administration (average 1.6m doses/day). Ppl in this country don't buy the notion that Cda's progress - or lack thereof - is circumstantial. They call it a failure:
Why are these findings important? If this were say, France, where vaccine hesitancy is high, people might just shrug at the pace of distribution. But the vast majority of Canadians say they will be inoculated when vaccine becomes available to them, 62% want it asap.
Is there every possibility current Canadian sentiment could shift dramatically when we start seeing jabs in arms again? Sure. But for now, they're saying vaccine delivery has been deficient.
