The phase "Trust the science" is very strange to me.

It carries this implication that there is "a science" to trust, which is absolutely antithetical to the scientific method.
Scientism's nature as a heresy is obvious to me.

Heresies, by their nature, will try to create some sort of God Surrogate.
It's possible to create alternate systems of belief which owe nothing to Christianity. Except that requires the effort of building an ontology from the ground up, which many can't be bothered with and lack the philosophical training to do.
So they usually just take Christian dogma, prune off the parts which personally bother them and then try to pass it off as an original creation.

Sorry brother, you did a heresy.
The particularly poorly educated do this without even being aware that this is what they are doing, because they just take certain assumptions about the nature of reality for granted, without looking into the pedigree behind those ideas (and finding out they're from The Church)
