Okay so here goes with my thoughts about casting PoC as white historical figures (get ready for nuanced thread):

I don’t think it is historically dishonest to cast a Black woman in this role, because, everyone knows Anne was white.

1/?
This will not be anyone’s first encounter of this figure, and there has been extensive education on the Tudor Era - so this is not going to corrupt history, since to anyone watching, it is clear that this is just an interpretation of the history

2/?
It is more dangerous, erasing PoC from these dramas, because despite the fact that we existed, it is neither taught about in the curriculum nor in our media, so that is actively corrupting history.

3/?
Having said that, as with David Copperfield with Dev Patel etc - whilst I believe this representation is fine and sometimes even important - I do think that it is far more important to tell stories of actual historical figures and times

4/?
That happened but are never represented in media, and aren’t linked to the Western World (if I watch one more show about colonial India 🙃) - this is the kind of representation is true and thoroughly needed.

5/?
So yeah, in conclusion, this casting is fine because of power dynamics and how history is taught, but actually showing the history of countries and cultures never represented would also be really impactful instead of trying to replicate and inhabit white spaces
