since we’re on the topic of toji, meeting his wife probably allowed him to feel like he finally had worth as a person. something he himself never thought he’d ever,l because of the trauma and shunning from his own clan (by no fault of his own). he probably learned to
love and accept himself because of her. he even wanted to start a family and probably to start fresh. and to have that taken away from him, i don’t blame him one bit for going back to his old habits because he knew going back would prevent him from ever getting hurt like that
again. the one time he opened up, it was taken from him. much so that he probably doubted himself as a person again, and clearly as a father. she had such an impact on him that he broke down and let his insecurities take over again.
maybe this chapter and depth of the zenin clan (and possible backstory) can teach some of y’all that he’s not as bad as you make him out to be.
