Recently recovered from covid-19?

India's top private insurers won't sell you medical policies for at least 3 months (6 months, if you were adversely affected).

Some won't cover future covid-complications up to 3 years.

My story in today's @EconomicTimes
Tried to buy family floater health cover from tele-sales agents. Most said my application would be rejected if there was recent covid-19 diagnosis at home. Spoke of a minimum "cooling off" period after negative test.

Max Bupa (3 months)
HDFC Ergo (45 days)
Care Health (90 days)
ICICI Lombard (45 days)
Star Health (15-30 days)
Tata AIG (3 year exclusion period)

These restrictions have not been made official in any policy document. Agents have been "advised" to not sell to those that are not fitting the cooling off criteria.

One may ask why?
Insurers say they don't understand mid to long term impact of virus -- unknown yet to medical community as well.

Citing documented cases of pulmonary (lung), cardiovascular (heart) and coagulative (clotting) complications, they say underwriting new policies have become harder.
This could lead to a rise in loss ratio, underwriting losses.

Some insurers also said this could lead to a rise in price for health covers soon. Another issue they highlighted is lack of information on long-term re-infection rate and efficacy of vaccine. https://bit.ly/3p7kOVW
Wonder what @irdaindia makes of this. Also wonder if this is exclusive to India or is global experience as well.

If you are aware of more such instances of insurance rejections for covid-19 patients, please feel free to add to the thread.
