Most of this sounds reasonable given the emergence of new variants. The notable exception is the arbitrary 6-feet rule that has zero science behind it. A majority of schools will not be able to meet this guideline, making it difficult to fully open regardless of community spread. https://twitter.com/boknowsnews/status/1360055419050287109
Full report here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community/schools-childcare/K-12-Operational-Strategy-2021-2-12.pdf. Based on a cursory reading, it is disappointing to see a larger focus on surface cleaning and handwashing than ventilation, the latter only being mentioned in a single paragraph. Hard to reconcile those recommendations with the science.
OK, yeah, nothing is going to open anytime soon. It’s going to take years for herd immunity to get us anywhere close to the blue zone, especially when a third of the country is refusing to be vaccinated. https://twitter.com/profemilyoster/status/1360321653364781056
It’s clear we’re going to need better mitigation strategies in order to relax these guidelines. The focus needs to shift to improved ventilation, better PPE, and rapid antigen testing. If we’re really serious about reopening schools, invest a lot of money in these three areas.
I agree with every word of this piece and will be thinking about it a lot over the next six months. https://twitter.com/ProfEmilyOster/status/1360537658007633922

Read every word. Apoorva hits the nail on the head, as usual. https://twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/status/1360641557586714625
I learned a good bit from this thread. We need to do everything possible to address the ventilation problem in schools over the summer in order to make the fall semester safe for students and teachers regardless of the spread in their communities. https://twitter.com/corsiaq/status/1360685174883667969
Another excellent thread on ventilation as it relates to the CDC guidelines. https://twitter.com/j_g_allen/status/1361279415964073984
