Okay - let’s do it: here’s a instant reaction thread on the new Love Story (Taylor’s Version)
1/ they have stayed impeccably true to the original with one exception: her voice and the vocal track. Which is so much better in this version it is stunning.

2/ her voice in the original is wonderfully innocent, but let’s be honest - she was still learning how to sing. That is part of the charm of the song! She sells the school girl love story. They mixed it accordingly. There’s a lot of high end because the low end just didn’t exist.
3/ But I don’t miss her old voice here. She is plainly so much better in this version. It is richer at every register. It speaks to a larger piece of this project - the songs we love by the artists we love are emblazoned in our brains. You can’t unhear them. They exist forever.
4/ when she announced she was doing this I worried fans were going to have to choose. They don’t. The old one is still there when you hear this. But you’ve grown up since you first heard it. You know her better. She knows herself better.
5/ there are a few vocal inflections that are slightly different. Her voice has more bass and breath. It’s just better now. Most stars have a hard time singing the old stuff ten years into it. They get jaded. But she’s clearly found joy in revisiting these vocally.
6/ Taylor has always found an adversary for motivation. She’s like all the great athletes, all the people who are driven. They create a narrative to push themselves to achieve. She’s used her campaign of artist empowerment to drive her to keep this fresh. It’s working.
7/ Not to go too far on this analogy, but she is older in musician years than Tom Brady is in football years. Most artists suck this deep into making music. They both use external adversarial motivation to drive them to be at their best. And that shines through on this version.
8/ How any fan is going to click on a version of these songs that doesn’t say “(Taylor’s version)” next to it going forward is beyond me.
Taylor Swift just took back her masters without having to pay a dime for them.
RESPECT.
