First Nations plays a big part in some major large mining companies including $Kl and $AEM.
In 2014, the land base of First Nations in Canada was approximately 3.5 million hectares (over 86M acres). In 2011 Detour Gold and First Nations Execute and Sign Agreement for the Detour Lake Project. 9 Years Later Detour Gold is acquired by Kirkland Lake Gold $KL.
$KL signed an agreement with First Nations who have treaty and aboriginal rights which they assert within the operations area of the mine. It provides a framework for collaboration in the development and operations of the mine and outlines tangible benefits for the First Nations.
Kirkland Lake Gold also pays millions in royalty payments annually to the First Nations.
