Kansas parents, please note: Today, the Kansas Legislature advanced two bills that would change public education in Kansas from one that serves all students into one that serves only a select few #ksleg #ksed
Both bills involve using public funds for private schools. HB 2119 would allow families to take Kansans’ tax dollars meant for public schools and use those funds to pay to go to private schools #ksleg #ksed
SB 61 would significantly expand a program that gives 70 percent tax credits to people who donate to organizations that send students to private schools #ksleg #ksed
If Kansans’ tax dollars are taken from public schools and given to private schools, how will we meet needs of students private schools don’t want? Public schools accept everyone. #ksleg #ksed
Private schools can discriminate in admissions and operate under different rules of transparency and accountability, which could lead to discrimination against students with special needs #ksleg #ksed
Public monies supporting constitutional funding of public schools, which again accept everyone, is needed. Diverting public funds to private schools that do not accept all students is not good policy for our state’s future #ksleg #ksed
Please contact your legislator and tell them to oppose HB 2119, SB 61 and HB 2068 (identical to SB 61). Thank you #ksleg #ksed
