2/11 In June, 2019, @tdsb Trustees unanimously voted on a Motion – Dealing With Incidents of Racism and Hate. As a result, the TDSB developed the Reporting and Responding to Racism and Hate Incidents Involving or Impacting Students in Schools (PR728) https://www.tdsb.on.ca/AboutUs/Detail.aspx?docId=2227

3/11 PR728 sets clear expectations about the processes to be followed and @tdsb’s responsibilities in situations where there are acts of racism and hate. The procedure supports the Board’s Human Rights Policy (P031) https://www.tdsb.on.ca/AboutUs/Detail.aspx?docId=195

4/11 As part of this @tdsb Motion, Trustees requested that the Director present an annual report documenting incidents and actions with regard to dealing with racism and hate in schools and how students learned from such.

5/11 This HRO Report includes the reporting of incidents of racism and hate in @tdsb schools - It may seem counter-intuitive that I am so proud of this Report given the statistics within it give cause for deep concern, but I am. If we don’t speak to the issues of systemic racism

7/11 In the 20/21 school year, @tdsb implemented the Racism, Bias and Hate (RBH) Portal – an online system which enables detailed incident reporting on racism and hate incidents involving or impacting students in schools... we expect reporting of even more incidents.

8/11 The @tdsb data show us incidents citing #antiBlack racism exceeded all other incidents reported by a wide margin. 9/11 The reporting of this data & @tdsb actions taken to address these incidents of racism and hate in our schools is critical to dismantling systemic racism. As it states in the Report, "we must be relentless in addressing each and every one of these incidents." #NoRoomForRacism

10/11 "In order for every one of our students & staff to flourish, we have a duty to create schools & workplaces which are free of discrimination, harassment & hate. This is what every student & staff member @tdsb deserves. More importantly and significantly, it is their right."
