Iowa in the 2020s is going to combine the worst of Scott Walker's Wisconsin with the worst of Sam Brownback's Kansas: we'll be a low-wage, low education extraction economy state that hemhorrages population and minds. https://twitter.com/VanessaMiller12/status/1359974880175874051
In an era where education and voting behavior are linked like never before, this and the Party ID The Profs bill are political retaliation against my community for being who and what we are. The end goal is to cut us down to the business school and the athletic department.
And I'm as much of a free speech absolutist as anyone, I cast a presidential vote over it once. But it always seems that those complaining about free speech restraints on campus are wanting to express some form of prejudice.

Free speech does not mean freedom from responsibility.
Or, as Ice-T once put it more eloquently, "freedom of speech, just watch what you say."

The politics of "Love the Hawkeyes, hate the students," long a staple of Iowa City politics, is now statewide.

I'll shut up now and return to complaining about the Taylor Swift rerecordings.
The worst part is, this is a deliberate choice. We threw away the best education system in the world. Over culture war resentments. Because we heard people in the grocery line speaking Spanish and thought they were making fun of us.
