izuku and shouto have been together for five years now.

they met coincidentally when shouto was handling a situation at the mall and izuku decided to help, despite not being a hero himself. after that, they met each other again and again and not long after, they started dating.
they grew close and really fond of each other but due to izuku being a vigilante and vigilantism not being quite accepted yet in hero society, they decided to keep their relationship a secret with the exception of a few close friends.
the secret was fine with both of them. they loved each other and treasured each other above everything else. nothing would separate them. definitely not a secret that was created to keep shouto’s reputation as a pro intact.
but like all good things, it also came to an unfortunate end.
one day, shouto has a job and izuku was meant to be there to just help, but instead an unfortunate thread of events come forward.
civilians ended up injured and some dead, the whole area destroyed and in the end, izuku ended up alone, his lover having died in the between.
his desperate and anguished screams were the only sound that could be heard all around the battlefield.
in the aftermath, izuku had to deal with the press following him everywhere, with questioning from the hero commission as well as the police. he could hear the people whispering behind his back about how it was his fault that that day ended the way it did.
and he knew it. it was because of his support items that the building blew up, which caused a chain reaction with the bombs the villains had planted in the surrounding area.

it was his fault that shouto had been caught in the blast.

and he’d have to deal with that forever.
an empty apartment with all of shouto’s stuff still in it, a side of a bed not longer getting warm and there was no more soft laughter in izuku’s ears when he cooks.

there’s nothing. it’s just him and their cat soba and his guilt.
and that’s how it is throughout the rest of his life.
