SF has recognized Asian enclaves “Chinatown, Japantown” and a big stake in the housing market, where many Asian landlords are complicit in housing discrimination. Complicit in assisting the tech boom, and pushing communities of color out of the Bay, including their own.
Asians being able to basically call for governmental support/legislation DURING Black History month, using historically Black frameworks of activism is INDICATIVE of a clear structural imbalance of power, and Anti-Blackness in the Asian community.
Asians appropriating Black Radical frameworks by using “Anti-Asian”, or “AsianLivesMatter” is disgustingly horrific on so many levels:
1. Conflating the struggles of Black and Asian communities erases our respective histories. Specificity is our ally, and our unique experiences and struggles, and recognizing them give us our special tools to only WE respectively can use to help each other.
2. Subconsciously it erases any acknowledgment of how Asians have been complicit in Anti-Blackness, NOT just in America, but GLOBALLY, through not just racism, but colorism.
