It is well known that the US is the first country to develop stealth technology, but how many people are aware that stealth would be impossible without an "industrial-strength" theory developed by Soviet scientist, Dr. Peter Ufimtsev (Пётр Уфи́мцев) in early 60s.

/1
The “The method of edge waves in the physical theory of diffraction” work was devoted to a physical and mathematical algorithm by which it was possible to calculate the scattering area for an aircraft of any shape.

/2
Denis Overholzer worked in the office of Lockheed Martin in the early 1970's. He gave translated work directly to the engineering staff. Those, being true experts in their field, penetrated into the work of Ufimtsev and almost immediately understood what was happening.

/3
For some reason, in the Soviet Union, Ufimtsev’s technology was not interested. Like the translator Denis Overholzer, Pyotr Ufimtsev faced a misunderstanding on the part of Soviet bureaucrats from science who did not want to delve into the essence of his theory.

/4
In 1990 Ufimtsev worked at the Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, received an invitation to come to the United States of America-to the University of California, as a visiting professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering.

/5
Dr. Ufimtsev agreed. Once in USA, Denis Overholzer came to meet him - the same translator who had come across a monograph of a Soviet scientist twenty years earlier. But soon Ufimtsev signed a contract with Lockheed competitor - Northrop Grumman.

/6
The fate of Ufimtsev is a typical example of the serious consequences where some of the state’s decisions toward scientists leads to. In the 1990s, the “brain drain” became a serious problem in post-Soviet Russia. Thousands of scientists, engineers and technicians left.

/7
The brain drain was similar in ex Yugoslavia and other east European countries as well. many left their countries in search of not only money but also a more attentive and respectful attitude.

And it is still going on...

The west only has benefited from this brain drain.

/8
Dr. Ufimtsev was also featured in the book: "B-2: The Spirit of Innovation" cover page and text. He was also referenced in some previous books about Stealth technology. US engineering and scientific societies, and corporations showed their appreciation for great work.
