I know I'm not alone in thinking about death and loss a lot lately, so... (quick thread)
In the last year we've lost an unimaginable number of people, and they've left us in a way that feels distant, surreal, almost cinematic. Deaths that have been visceral & tangible only for those tasked with honoring & managing what remained, both physical & incorporeal. 1/
In the sports world alone, the last few weeks have been a gut punch reminder of cliches oft-repeated but rarely heeded, about not taking life for granted, about telling people what they mean to you while they're still around to hear it. 2/

So from now on Thursdays will be my day to tell people how appreciated they are & let others know why they're so great. To say things I'd like people to know now, not later. One colleague here (& one friend elsewhere), every Thursday. 4/
First up, @TonyReali. I think he knows how much I admire him, but its more than the way he makes Around The Horn a family & a wonderful show to work on (I'm almost guaranteed to get up from the chair with a smile, no matter my mood before I sit down.) It's how he manages 5/
...to be both the sun & an orbiting moon--an incredibly tough task. He's got opinions & jokes & comments & feelings to share, but he's also the best listener you'll ever meet. He takes up a ton of space, but gives it just as freely. He's as big & as small as necessary. 6/
It's a thing those of us with lots of opinions & jokes & comments & feelings to share often say we're working on, (with varying levels of success), but it's something he's mastered. He's both the sharp-shooter & the assist leader, every game. 7/
In a business that can be full of ego & fraudulence & selfishness, he's genuine and supportive & he knows the best feeling is to take others with you when you succeed. To share the light that you create & the light that you attract. You're the best, @TonyReali.
