One of the most challenging career is to be a teacher in this present context. See, once upon a time, knowledge was very limited. Say 500 years ago, books were scarce and knowledge was only found through wise people that collected it from other wise people. As humans write
more and more and technology of storing written things became more available, the pursuit for knowledge and information got easier and easier. People used to travel long distances merely to get scraps of knowledge and pearls of wisdom.
As information and by it, the extension of knowledge was made to be easily available in this modern world through books and the Internet, the pursuit of knowledge became obsolete. Anything that is hard to find is precious & of high value and anything that is scarce, is valuable.
So how do teachers today "sell" knowledge when most of the students nowadays can have access to not only the information but even the practical application of those information are readily available. We got online videos, chat forums, social media, quora wiki etc.
So perhaps what needed nowadays is some reversal of the education system. Kids should teach adults on how to be humans because so many of us forgot how to be one in our desperation to become a fully functional robot. Or sheeps.
And teachers will have a hard time to get students to be interested in learning what they already think they know. Just look at the young people nowadays, they think old people have nothing beneficial to offer to them. What a waste of knowledge.
