things disabled people have learned from the pandemic so far:
- pretty much all western governments want us dead and will enact policies that specifically, directly and exclusively set us up to die while vowing that they want to "protect" us.
- pretty much all western healthcare systems want us dead and will enact policies that specifically, directly and exclusively set us up to die, their reasoning being that they want to "protect" us from the pain of receiving lifesaving medical care.
- all the access tools we've ever wanted exist and are ready to use at a week's notice; the only reason they are denied to us is because nobody wants us to have access.
- which ones of our friends and relatives are willing to accept inconveniences, routine changes and minor to moderate discomforts to avoid literally killing us.
- when "the economy" at large is begging western governments to protect the lives of their citizens because so much death hurts the economy much more than the protective measures, governments will still kill their citizens and claim that this is to protect "the economy".
- the same governments that want disabled people dead to not care about how many thousands newly permanently disabled people they are creating every day; once they're disabled they will simply be next in line to be killed by targeted policy.
- most people have no qualms openly admitting that they are okay with killing disabled people.
- most people vastly underestimate the percentage of people who have "pre-existing conditions". which is not 20% and not 50%, but something much closer to 100%. have you ever broken your arm? do you have a skin condition? high blood pressure? congratulations.
- a lot of people are ready and willing to help us, but the actions of our governments prevent them from doing so, and the messaging put forth by governments and media encourages them to be hostile towards us instead.
- to a lot of people, our lives are worth less than a palm-sized piece of cloth.
- disabled solidarity is worth a lot more than the empty words of abled oppressors.
