Let's see how long I can put up with this before I give up.

THIS is the #IGCvMegaMan thread for Mega Man 1.

Dig that box art.

So, can I run through all the vintage Mega Man's in just a few days, whatever amount of time before Capcom Arcade Stadium comes out?
I *am* cheating and using a boss-order guide. So, Bomb Man is first.

And yes, I want everyone to hop in on the hashtag #IGCvMegaMan. I'm playing Mega Man 1 - 7, Mega Man X 1 - 3, all the Game Boy games, and more.

BUT, when Capcom Arcade Stadium releases, #IGCvMegaMan ends.
The plan is I'm doing Capcom Arcade Stadium and then hopping back to #IGCvSNES for the rest of the year. But, I've been wanting to run through all the Mega Mans. I've only beaten 2: Mega Man 2 & 3

So first up, Bomb Man. And YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO ACTION HERO PUNS AFTER EACH BOSS
Right off the bat, it's actually insane how many gameplay conventions Mega Man ignores. You get hit by enemies flying in without any warning. I know it's best to think of Mega Man 1 as a proof of concept, but did nobody stand back and say "guys, we made this kind of cruel!"
My pics might end up sucking since the emulator I'm using (which is different since I needed variations that eliminate the flashing) have a lot of tearing.

And hey look, they look like Bullet Bills.
Alright, Bomb Man time.
I kept rewinding trying to get a decent screenshot of my victory, but it didn't happen.

But I beat Bomb Man.

He had a short fuse.
So far, Mega Man 1 is okayish. I wouldn't want to play it without Infinity Gauntlet options.

Bomb Man, Guts Man, Cut Man, Elec Man, Ice Man, and Fire Man is the apparent order. So that means Guts Man is next. Look at the mouth on him.

Must.. resist.. oral jokes..
So, some fun trivia since I'm all about the silly trivia and people seem to like it..

We all know that Mega Man is Rock Man in Japan, but that name was a compromise and not even one of the finalists when they were choosing the name. MOST liked Knuckle Man, with RAINBOW MAN 2nd.
Knuckle Man is a very cool name, but it doesn't really convene how cool the concept of Mega Man is. Rainbow Man was because he changes colors based on his items.

And also, this whole section I aced without rewinding. I'm insanely proud of myself. I want a cookie. Now.
Whatcha making today, Wily?

"Big scary cyclopean crush-bot."

Crush-bot, eh?

"Yes. For crushing."

Crushing what?

"Things that need crushing."

Is this that take over the world thing?

"Yep. I will rule the world."

Why cyclopean?

"Because it uh.. looks more evil I guess."
The cyclopean crush-bot is one of the few video game villains that got an accurate character model in Captain N: The Game Master. I mean, look at that! Besides the scale, that's pretty damn close. Imagine if the whole cartoon had been that good.
Oh, and the Cyclopean Crush-Bot *KILLED* Captain N, Mega Man, and Princess Lana. It was the only time in the entire show they had "lives" and they lost one.

Anyway, I'm at Guts Man. Also accurate, I guess, even if Captain N just shot him once.
I took three shots with Bomb Man's weapon to beat Guts Man.

I guess he was Gutsless.
You gotta feel for bullies. They can't even give Cuts Man rabbit ears.
Whatcha making today, Wily?

"Turning this recycling bin into an evil recycling bin that spits evils scissors out."

That's.. pretty evil. I mean, I guess.

"You guess? People who recycle will be mildly annoyed."

Does it still recycle?

"Yes. It recycles evil."

How.

"Right."
I actually have to admit, some cheapness aside, this is probably better aged than most people admit.

The color scheme is different too. It has this weird, washed-out blueish/green look. Reminds me of Minority Report.
It doesn't look thrilling, but basically I picked up a rock and hit Cut Man with it. Took two shots. 3 down, 3 to go.

I guess Cut Man couldn't cut it.
I'm having fun, so I guess that's what counts. I have many people warning me rage is coming, so I'm soaking it in.

If we're not to the cabin by time the sun goes down, I have to stop. I'll restart once I settle in. I can't play games or even look at my phone in a car at night.
The ROM I'm using is delightful.
There's some pretty good level design, but I'm not a fan of any "you can't get (item X) if you didn't play (level X) first" design, and that's all over the early Mega Mans.
See ya.
FABULOUS!
He was an.. Elec..tion fraud? No that doesn't work.

Um..

If you have an Elec Man lasting longer than 12 hours please call your doc..

No.

Um..

Hey Elec Man.. YOU SUCK!
"Smell my armpits!"
One thing I appreciate about the Mega Man series is random 1Up drops.

How can you not love it? I'm cheating like a Trump on tax day but I still get a little dopamine hit every time I see one of those little happy 1Up heads.
Just to achievement minimum annoyance, I did THIS room legitimately. I'm cheating for the rest. I shit to do.

Not really, but I want to get this over with.
Hey Ice Man..

Chill.
Angela's quite amused with this character design.

"His name is Fire Man and he has an actual torch for a hair."

You know what is something Capcom ought to do.

"Mega Man Must Die" where each of the original bosses gets a stage, fights Mega Man, and no matter what, you lose.
As in, you PLAY as the bosses.

I'm about to play Fire Man. I'm turning Action Hero Pun duties over to Miss Hollywood Superstar Writer Angela.
Again, I love this ROM.
"Hey Fire Man, my name is Mega Man. I'm fireproof, and you're fire..

POOF!"

That wasn't bad, Angela.
Onto the Wily Stage. Everyone has hyped this a lot.
The soft-lock potential for this stage is INSANE!

Like.. holy shit dude, you could so easily get soft-locked right there.
Yes I know about the famous Elec Man weapon trick.

For those that don't know it: shoot this dude, pause and unpause (the SELECT button pause, not the start button MENU pause) and every time you do it, it remaps and does another hit of damage. Makes a very tedious boss fight easy
