I have left similar feedback regarding visual effects. I have epilepsy, and dramatically contracted backgrounds (snow fallimg on against something dark like trees) can create a very flashy effect that sets off seizures. More often than not, I get "epileptics shouldn't play". https://twitter.com/AutSciPerson/status/1359353607234215937
Some games have a way to adjust them for this (snowfall can be eliminated, thunderstorms have no lightning, etc). But, no, I'm told epileptics simply shouldn't play any video games. I play a variety of games, I love them, and more needs to be done.
Millions of people have a seizure disorder. Flashing lights make life difficult, ranging from police lights to advertising boards to store signs. One shop had strobe lights active, but wanted to try on the clothes. My husband went in ahead and asked that the strobe lights stop.
They turned off the strobe lights and even turned the music volume down. They didn't make a big deal out of it. Some have, saying it diminishes how they want people to experience their store.
With games, I'm told to turn the graphics down. That diminishes the experience for me. Plus, this isn't an option on console games, only PC games. I'm told it's gonna cost too much, take too much time, etc.
O brought it up w/ @bioware and they told me they're gonna work on that. I gave them some tips, suggested they have people w/ epilepsy test the effects and see if they're acceptable. They said they're gonna work on being more inclusive and see about having epileptics giving input
I cried bcuz my fav franchise, @dragonage, has made me so happy, and they listened. I told them 10 minutes into Mass Effect I had a seizure, but bcuz it's an older game, I understand it can't be adjusted. I've had no problem with the Dragon Age games.
By making games more inclusive and accessible, millions of more people will be able to play. That's more money for the game companies. If nothing else, consider the amount of money the games will make bcuz they're now available to millions or more players.
Listen to us, hear us, and include us. We're trying to help, not attack you. We just wanna play w/out diminishing our own experience.
