would love to see a column integrating land use into eviction, labor precarity, the widening racial & socioeconomic divide that makes land use so fraught in the first place. we don’t live in one CA, we live in two & everyone who writes columns lives in the one that’s doing better
people can be mad at me all they want for being complainy or demanding, but my job requires me to know a lot of people who are so chronically vulnerable, underpaid, and now deeply indebted, that the prospect of them participating in some future dream housing market is laughable.
“is California progressive” should be about the way our racialized and now deeply indebted labor underclass is exploited by hostile or absentee legislators, police, slumlords, underfunded schools & hospitals etc. *that* is the story of most of California, not a school renaming!!
