Folks crushed by poverty/receiving govt assistance aren’t the most in need of Dave Ramsey’s debt reduction plans. My neighbors in that reality often budget better than anyone I know. The folks I know who most need Ramsey have an image of wealth built by crushing debt/consumption.
Poverty is a choice. A choice made when those with resources refuse to bless their neighbors. It’s a lie that those without resources must change their ways when their neighbors have failed them. It is a form of judgment and shame to blame those in poverty for systems that crush.
Most of our political/economic/educational/health care issues might be resolved by increased generosity and love-especially from Christians who take seriously loving their neighbors. If you see poverty as a “problem,” then how far will your love and generosity go to help heal?
My friend @lmjread lives this reality, and says we’ve never genuinely tried throwing serious money at eradicating poverty. Why not now? Why not seize this moment to change course and leave no neighbor behind in how we meet the future together? Poverty is over if we want it.
