It's crucial that the impeachment managers are including the racist/white nationalist elements that Trump spent 5 years activating and cultivating (including in his 2016 campaign) in their case. Trump couldn't have assembled that mob without a core of white entitlement...
meaning a sense of entitlement to the president of their choice, regardless of the actual election outcome, and especially if the declared winner was the choice of nonwhite people (who don't count). But there was also the sense of entitlement to the physical space of the Capitol
and to physically seize the bodies of elected representatives, to force them to give MAGA "their" president, regardless of what "democracy" calls for because screw democracy if they don't get their way. Per Mike Lee, democracy is not even necessary. Only "liberty" (for his side).
The 1/6 MAGA insurrection was the quintessence of entitlement and privilege; this idea that Right Wing White America CANNOT LOSE ELECTIONS. And after "letting" Barack Obama occupy the White House they were never going to back down again. Trump would not be removed by mere voters.
And when they are said they have lost, it must be a lie, a fraud and a theft. In fact, Trump told them exactly that! And so why not simply overturn that "fraudulent" outcome by brute force. This of course is how America operated for most of its existence. So back comes the noose!
The fact that in the last couple generations things have failed to operate the old way on occasion makes those occasions literal crises for those whose core concept of America is that it is a white, Christian country that lets "others" be here but under THEIR rules and largesse.
Trump didn't perform some magic trick to become the leader of this dangerous movement. He simply used his existing fame, courtesy of Mark Burnett and The Apprentice, to market brutal white nationalism as politics, and to market himself as the indispensable defender of The Faith.
The only question left is whether the Republican Party will fully surrender to this false religion. Sadly, it seems we already know the answer.
