N’Golo Kanté childhood stories that has made him the world class player he is today. {A thread}
29th March 1991:
N’Golo Kanté was born in Paris,France. He was born into a lower-class family this is from his parents migrating from Mali in 1980 to see a potentially brighter future in Paris,France.
Kanté lived with his parents and his 3 other siblings. From a very young age, the sense of trust and responsibility befell him. This is because his Father sadly passed away.
From a young age Kanté knew the value of working hard will get him far and successful in life. Kanté grew up in a suburban area close to Paris called Rueli Malmaison.
Kanté worked as a garbage picker as his mum worked as a cleaner. He worked from a young age to sustain his family.
Working as a garbage picker was very tough. Kanté would walk kilometres around the city of Paris collecting rubbish and send it to small recycling firms for ‘quick cash’
Kanté knew his job will still see his family as ‘poor’ but he still did it to financially help his mother and make a living.
1998 France World Cup
In the 98 French World Cup Kanté saw a new opportunity to make more money. He quit his job as a garbage collector and his new job was dropping fans off to the stadiums.
France won the World Cup and Kanté was inspired by African background World Cup winners that migrated to France like Thierry Henry and Patrick Viera.
After the World Cup Kanté was aspired to be a footballer and joined a local team. During his grassroot playing days he was noticed by many academics.
Kanté started his career at JS Suresnes academy. The academy was local aswell. Kanté was immediately tagged by teammates as the smallest and most focused young star at the club. Kanté was always determined and humble.
Quotes from teammates:
“Kanté was 3 years younger than us yet he was already playing with us. We were playing against a local team and he came on ten minutes from the end. He was smaller than everyone yet no one could get past him
At the end of the match we went into the changing rooms,I looked at one of my teammates and I said to him ‘Look, he’s smaller than us and in ten minutes he has shown us how to do it.’ It was a real lesson in humility.’
Kanté helped his team be very successful and during presentations he would celebrate a far as he was very shy.
Kanté was at the academy for 4 years and is remembered as the most faithful servant and a club favourite.
In 2010 Kanté signed for Boulogne and showed his excellence and potential.
2015: Kante signed for Leicester City and in his first season he played a huge role of winning the premier league.
After that unforgettable season. New manager, Antonio Conte of Chelsea saw the excellence in Kanté and signed him for 30 million. Since then he has won many trophies and awards for club and country.
2018, France won the World Cup and Kanté was a huge player.
In an interview he said:
“I was 7 years old when France first won it for the country (In 1998) and I was so excited, I said to my friends: ‘One day I will win it.”
Without a doubt,Kanté has proven his quality to the world. And inspired many people.

This just proves you can do anything and all you have to do is put your mind to it.
