Not sure why this is earth shattering to some but here is goes. Running for office requires you to get out of your comfort zone. You have to prioritize raising money. Money pays for tools to reach voters, persuade them and turn them out to vote (among other things)
Money also pays staff to help you do that work so you can focus on being a candidate. Political campaigns are unfortunately one of the most exploitive industries. Too often, campaign staff is forced to work long hours for less than their market value and often times, for free.
Campaign workers have bills, they have families to provide for. They, like all workers cannot afford to be paid less than they’re worth. Candidates, please consider that when you publicly gripe about having to fundraise.
Also, there are plenty of ways to fundraise without catering to big donors.
