I was home recovering from surgery during Benghazi so I followed it real time. I was convinced of wrongdoing by US govt ldrs that should've been held accountable. GOP had hearings for YEARS. Now, US Capitol stormed & GOP says leave man alone who incited it. No accountability. https://twitter.com/LindseyGrahamSC/status/1359695883906998277
/ I'm a lifelong GOP voter. I sat on the floor as a kid watching Reagan give speeches about the Evil Empire. My first campaign was helping my Sunday School teacher run for the Mississippi Senate when I was 17. My first vote was for George H.W. Bush. I wanted Clinton impeached...
/ ... b/c he perjured himself and the law is the law. I voted for W twice and wrote in Huckabee in 2008 b/c McCain was too liberal (mistake on my part). I voted for Jeff Sessions for AL Senate 3X. I used to read Pat Buchanan and listen to Rush and Hannity daily. GOP was my team.
/ I'm adamantely ProLife & convictionally Conservative - like Burke, Kirk, Reagan conservative. But, here's the thing. GOP of today is unrecognizable to me. Standing for nothing other than a cult of personality. If you think you're conservative and you support this, you're not.
/ But, I'm glad for this disillusionment b/c it taught me to look to God's Kingdom instead of politics for answers. Bible and following Jesus led me to care about people different from me. As I studied Scripture, my view of people and their challenges changed. Compassion grew.
/ The Better Way of Jesus frustrates both Right and Left b/c it holds firmly to objective truth outside of us, denounces worldly power, values Imago Dei in all people of all kinds - unborn AND born - and exclusively points to Jesus as the way, truth, and life. Narrow Path.
/ I don't know if Trump should be declared guilty on a constitutional basis or not. I'm not a constitutional scholar and queue the "process" arguments from those looking for reasons to acquit. But, the lack of moral outrage over what happened, the defense of it all - its wrong.
/ We shouldn't be paralyzed into supporting every evil just b/c a non-Democrat w/ power was the one doing it. Graham can vote to acquit based on evidence & law, but his prejudicial dismissal as a juror is wrong. Moral integrity requires we uphold what is right, true, and good.
