Every society’s moral cohesion (asabiyya) rests on a set of myths that have a basis in political reality. China = CCP/Confucianism, France= French Revolution-Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, US - Founders/Declaration /Constitution

Disrupting the society permanently requires discrediting these myths among a critical mass of the society’s population to create room for counter myths that are highly negative so they can be replaced by yet new myths that will be the basis of a new political order 2/

US myths have been under attack by the far left, distinct from criticism of USG policies, since the 1960’s. Only recently though have negative counter myths emerged in the population on the left (CRT) and right (new world order, coming civil war)

While these are fed and amplified by foreign enemy states on social media they have energy because pluralities of the US public & elites now reject or at least disbelieve traditional liberal democratic constitution values and have authoritarian, anarchic and conspiratorial ones

This can’t be countered simply by better information because the new myths also reject rational and empirical epistemology as this helps insulate their believers from critical arguments and evidence. It needs to be countered by elite behavior in alignment with traditional myths

And the explicit rejection of the negative myths rather than tolerating or quasi allying with their proponents by mainstream liberals and conservatives. Thirdly the traditional US myths must produce results via beneficial to most of the US population

That’s not happening now
