Years ago, as a mil-contractor, I wrote a gamified on-line test that called for users to visually review a military unit's physical bulletin board—think safety posters & flyers & FRG bake sales—for warning signs of extremism in the ranks.

I was particularly pleased that a nerdy reference to "Star Wars" cosplay passed curriculum review. An awkwardly worded "Join the First Order" recruiting pamphlet included strange symbols & arcane references. It was a red herring lure. 2/n
The "real" indicator of extremism on the test was a sign-up poster for the unit's "Scout Snipers," which featured a particular symbol based on a real-life news event involving U.S. Marines in 2012. The double-lightning bolts "SS" symbol has historical connections to Nazism. 3/n
I've seen a lot of veterans cancelling their subscriptions today, upset that Mickey Mouse+ fired their favorite actor/make-believe bounty hunter.

I'm a 1A guy, but words have meaning, and they should have consequences. In this case, my money's on the Mouse. 4/n
TL;dr?

I can't believe Star Wars is outing Nazis on my social media feeds.

I can't believe that *this* is the way. 5/5
