This morning, the House @EnergyCommerce Committee is marking up its #COVID19 relief bill, including provisions to support #Medicaid home & community based services ( #HCBS). https://docs.house.gov/Committee/Calendar/ByEvent.aspx?EventID=111190
Medicaid pays for the majority of long-term services & supports, & this bill gives states more federal Medicaid funds to expand & strengthen HCBS. The increase of 7.35 percentage points for 1 year beginning April 2021 is the 1st new infusion of $ for HCBS since the ACA in 2010.
Attention has been focused on #COVID19's devastating impact in nursing homes - but people receiving & providing home & community based services face similar disproportionate risks from the pandemic. https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/issue-brief/state-covid-19-data-and-policy-actions/#longtermcare
Enhanced federal matching $ in the COVID relief bill will help states strengthen & expand #Medicaid HCBS: they can fund paid leave or hazard pay for direct care workers, support family caregivers, pay for PPE, help people who had to move to a nursing home return to the community.
States have used #Medicaid emergency authorities to adopt policies to respond to #COVID19's impact on #seniors & people w/ #disabilities - & new federal matching funds can support & expand those efforts: https://www.kff.org/medicaid/issue-brief/state-actions-to-sustain-medicaid-long-term-services-and-supports-during-covid-19/
