Okay I’m a graphic designer/art student. I want to preface I have nothing against SJ at all and I stan both boy groups and girl groups. I’m speaking about design, approach, execution, style, etc https://twitter.com/ff12vspsmymp2gn/status/1359838217093009412
Design compositions in a square format can only vary so much. Also the placement of both albums are even very accurate to the rule of thirds as you can see with DC’s album legit having the logo in the middle third while the pillars are on the other thirds. The placement is design
Conscious because you don’t want the pillars sitting on the lines where the rule of thirds are that’s also carried through the SJ album. The placement follows the design rules of how compositions are supposed to be done to create balance and harmony
Now let’s talk about execution and style. These albums are legit done in such a different way that you can’t even say they were done by the same person. The styles of the art is so different. It’s like comparing Cezanne to Picasso. They both did cubism, but their approaches are
Very different. You can’t just compare to the two without taking account of what the end goal/concept that the artist wanted to create. Also the meaning of concept in design means the big idea that communicates the intended message
This definition is from my concept and strategy class where we create tons of concepts for different companies in various mediums
From what I’ve gather the CONCEPT is that SJ is about renaissance while DC is about utopia. The name of the album and the execution of the SJ is renaissance which is shown with the recalling of Greek history as major point in renaissance (art history) like look at anything by
CW // nudity
Looking at anything done by the big 4 artists of renaissance like Michelangelo, Donatello, etc I legit have pieces of their artwork on my wall. They recall history during the renaissance.
Okay onto DC’s album their concept is about the dystopia (a state of where suffering and injustice) and how they are dreaming of finding a utopia. Most utopians are pictures in heavenly place where it’s angelic, peaceful, white and clean. That’s the utopia where many people
Believe where we go to when we die (Christianity, Catholicism, etc). A utopia is also subjective for dependent on the person. The utopia in DC’s storyline is a place where there is no hate, mean comments, etc. which has nothing to do with SJ’s concept. Again I don’t their whole
Concept, but by the looks of it, it’s totally not the same. Again if you want to argue about CONCEPTS and COMPOSITIONS you have to look at the BIG PICTURE because it’s just not surface level. There’s a lot of planning and thinking that goes into these concepts. Please educate
Yourself on what concept and design is before speaking on it because it really diminishes the value of designers who spend moths or even years on concepts and not everyone can create concepts that are very thought out. Design is so much more than one person thinks it is
My professor once said everyone can do design, but how it’s done WELL not everyone can do. Designers are there to help create these concepts/big ideas into something that everyone likes and get people noticed about the client. There’s a lot about design that people don’t know
About and there’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff where there are so many revisions and changed and it TAKES A LOT OF PLANNING
I’m going to bring this in because I think it’s very important that many people don’t know. But you can’t copyright a concept. You don’t a concept unless you copyright the product and the thing for concept ideas for albums can’t be copyrighted https://twitter.com/jo_leo21/status/1359862403492507648
Omg I never talked about the style. The style completely different as well. The way each album was executed is so different in terms of content and main focus. You can see that SJ is very inspired by Greek mythology, architecture and art
While DC’s album is very much about more minimal and clean with the approach of being utopian with the clean/minimal approach. Also if you can claim the pillars are the same they aren’t. SJ’s pillars are Corinthian while DC’s pillars are Doric. A bit column knowledge for you
Also how they placed the logos aren’t similar at all. SJ’s is more central while DC’s is higher up and in between the top line of thirds. It’s the style of the albums that are no way similar at all with the different elements and stuff
I’m also going to include this because it’s also relevant https://twitter.com/mystic_pegasus/status/1359869171362918408
Oh wait I did talk about style/execution in different ways, oh well
