Two reason Black men told me they were voting for Donald Trump when I encountered it.

1. Was the check - despite the fact @SpeakerPelosi got them that check.

2. Was the pardons. The impression Kim K and Van Jones gave on how much movement was happening there https://twitter.com/anitakumar01/status/1359847379109883904

But now we know the numbers were lower than previous years.

So these folks gave visual cover for what was a dirty mess. The opposite was the reality- it was the slowest clemency processing. They ran a scam.

When Joe Biden took office, he inherited the largest backlog of unresolved clemency cases in U.S. history: 14,000 people waiting to find out if their convictions would be erased or sentences reduced, or if they’d get any answer at all.

I am pissed. If I ran a nonprofit that is singularly in charge of this issue- I am not giving props to someone with this backlog.

Van Jones did, repeatedly!

And touted how much work he was able to do via his relationship.

I not blaming the issue on Van Jones to be clear.

I am saying he sold out very cheaply

He allowed himself to be used for credit

Trump was clearly a D- Student at best - and he gave him a credibility to look like he was doing well on the issue

That works against the issue

It definitely worked against the party

But if your nonprofit is priority one- I respect you have to do what you got to do. And getting ppl out of jail who are languishing there is a worthwhile mission for Party interest to take a back seat.

I get that. What I don’t get is this

Van Jones heralded Donald Trump for doing so much.

I am stunned

He had interviews w/ @Oprah and share stages w/ Meek Mills

I have no words.

I didn’t think much of Van Jones before. But I cannot completely articulate how disappointed I am now in light of this information
