While many tell themselves & others they are being theologically principled or leaving domineering leaders (both real problems requiring such action), here are some of the main reasons why ppl actually forsake their membership vows & head for other churches:
1/
1) dissatisfaction or boredom w/ the experience (music/preaching/people)
2) mismanaged anxiety abt relational tension w/ pastor(s) or members which avoids healthy conflict
3) running from correction re: beliefs or conduct.
Simply put, these are failures to be humbly faithful.
2/
What’s worse is that pastors receive ppl into their congregations without question or buy every story abt how bad their previous church was. This is not caring for the sheep. It’s preying on them to grow your flock.
This too is a failure to be faithful.
3/
The result of unfaithful shepherds & sheep constantly breaking ordination or membership vows: churches become revolving, watered down, or partisan/ideological communities where no long-term discipleship aimed at maturity & godliness is possible.
