THREAD🧵 No one asked for this but I’m going to do it anyway. Let’s debunk/adapt some common studytube study tips for neurodivergent students https://twitter.com/charliclement_/status/1359828907025969153
❌ Study in silence or with lofi/classical music - you’ll get distracted!

✅ Work out your auditory sensory need. I used to need a youtube video or tv show on to study, now I generally need upbeat music with lyrics (and I sing, a lot). You need to strike the ideal sensory level.
❌ Don’t have anything around you that could distract you.

✅ Have fidget toys, doodle pads and anything else you might find helpful around you. You might need to stim as you work or you might need to take small breaks to do so. I like tangles.
❌ Don’t jump from task to task, stick to one and finish it

✅ This will be different for each neurodivergent brain, but sometimes it’s better for me to do things as they come into my head or it’ll just bother me. Alternatively I quickly note it down and go back! See what works.
❌ Use the pomodoro method (25 mins work, 5 mins break)

✅ Pomodoros might work for you, but you may find you actually need shorter work blocks and longer breaks, or oppositely you might need to do fewer really long sessions. This is trial and error.
❌ Use a timetable / plan out your day in exact increments

✅ This might work for some, others may find it too stressful. You may instead find having set lists but not times is better, or knowing when you will study but just working out what you fancy doing at the time.
❌ Don’t work in bed! Only study at a desk! Switch up the environment!

✅ Work in bed if it provides you a better environment on a sensory level. Desks can cause us pain or unnecessary sensory difficulties. And switching up where you work may cause anxiety as you like continuity
Basically the purpose of this thread is to show you that just because studytube/motivational study tips don’t work for you, it doesn’t mean your studying is inferior. Needing something different or unconventional does not make you less of a student.
