VISION NOT EXECUTION
From my experience, the biggest challenge with VISION teams is ensuring their work has the right level of abstraction: providing teams a direction on where to go without limiting how they get there.

↓↓↓ my thoughts on this
In a valley we have big mountains and small hills, and far away we can see our North Star goals.
In order to reach our goals our product teams hike across the hills, learning how to overcome problems as they arise.
At the same time, our VISION team climb-up a tall mountain to look ahead. The mountain offers us a holistic view of the valley, which we use to guide the hikers closer to the North Star Goals.
In this way, the climbers define where to go and the hikers define *how we get there.
I think this approach is most useful when you are pivoting rather than iterating your product experience.
