With Scotland reaching #OneMillionJags there's something that stands out like a sore thumb. There's plenty of mention that Scotland was initially slower than England in vaccine rollout, but no analysis of how effective the relative programmes were in protecting the vulnerable.
It's a basic aspect of the vaccination programme given that protection is the number one reason for it. So why is Scotland's main stream media refusing to compare the relative effectiveness of the Scottish and English rollouts? Care homes would be the obvious place to look.
So is there a difference?
The answer is yes. Official figures, which are readily available, show that the Covid related death rate in England's care homes is now three times higher than in Scotland's care homes. But why?
The answer is yes. Official figures, which are readily available, show that the Covid related death rate in England's care homes is now three times higher than in Scotland's care homes. But why?
The Scottish Govt, unlike the UK Govt, prioritised care homes when it began the vaccine rollout. The UK Govt decided care homes were too challenging in the early days so focused on community vaccination, which is easier and can be done faster.
In conclusion, the Scottish Govt operated a different vaccine rollout policy than the UK Govt and reduced deaths in care homes as a resut. The UK Govt managed to achieve higher numbers in the early days, but at the expense of the vulnerable.
