Kudos to the Malaysian cabinet for the decision to provide free vaccines for non-citizens under the NIP. Thanks, @Khairykj. Hopefully, this includes the vulnerable non-citizens without documentation- undocumented migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, stateless people. (1)
Vaccination is an essential preventive strategy. However, it is not the only one. Also necessary is testing, isolation and treatment of all cases. Concerned about the new MOH circular charging non-citizen for COVID-19 screening, quarantine & treatment at quarantine centres (2)
New MOH policy to charge foreign workers RM737.00 for 10 days quarantine, as well as separate charges for screening, testing and treatment- all to be paid for by EMPLOYERS. Likely counterproductive. Employers & workers may fail to come forward for screening & PH measures(3)
Also of concern. Circular states that details of all workers need to be clearly recorded & those that fail to produce valid travel documents will be notified to the Immigration Department for action. The fear of immigration action will drive non-citizens away from healthcare (4)
We need to be inclusive & speak the same language. If not, we will not get community trust & cooperation. We are not safe until all of us are safe. (FINAL) @DGHisham @DrAdhamBaba @Khairykj @ProfAdeeba @phgrads @UM4PublicHealth @DrAmarMOH @chriskc_Lee @atlanticfellows
