I routinely examine and dissect my preferences, and they leave me with a a better understanding of my psyche, and the process helps me enhance my writing. which is not what people want when they want me to examine my preferences.

it's a falsehood. we have good faith discussions about this all the time. discussions you aren't privy to, becuase your purpose isn't conscious enjoyment - it's feeling superior and being entitled to others conforming to your standards.
