In this country, people of all stripes expect Indifenous folks to just be used to getting targeted by state and vigilante violence.

Ask yourself why it’s so shocking when it happens to someone who isn’t Indigenous or Black. Why do others have an expectation of safety?
I worry about the safety of my Asian American spouse. I do. Especially in a country that offers favors to BIPOC who uphold white supremacy and allows some people to believe they are a model minority.

Neither my spouse nor I can be safe until solidarity overcomes that trick.
The lesson is this: none of us are safe until all of us are safe.

Stop selling each other out for the promise of safety.
Black and Indigenous elders being abused is just every day business in America. So when it happens to folks who don’t identify with our communities they’re very shocked. And it is of course very sad. But ask yourself about how you were doing your business before it touched you.
None of us are safe until all of us are safe and safety comes through solidarity and solidarity requires an honest reckoning about who has been expected to carry the burden of living daily with violence as a normative feature of our every day lives
