THREAD: Last night, my colleague @ginasilvafox11 told the story of Marquis LeBlanc, a black teen who was viciously murdered by a group of teens at a party in Pomona in 2009 after trying to dance with a woman. He was beaten, disrobed, stabbed through heart, then shot in his head.
Martin Haro, who was 16 at the time, was one of the teens who murdered Marquis. The day after, he texted “Did the ni***r that we fucked up die? We stomped the shit out of his face.” He was granted parole by the Parole Board this morning after 11 years in prison.
Marquis’ mom says she was only notified about the parole hearing last night, and as part of DA George Gascon’s policies, her prosecutor was not allowed to attend this morning’s hearing to advocate against Haro’s release. The Parole Board said Haro poses a "moderate risk".
The Parole Board said mitigating factors in their decision to grant parole include Haro's youthful offender status, and his participation in rehabilitative programs, though his aggravating factors included "continued problems with impulsivity", and self control problems.
During the parole hearing, Haro told the Parole Board "I was evil, I was a criminal", but says he has since changed.
Marquis' mom is devastated, and I would implore you to watch the @ginasilvafox11 story last night.

Also worth mentioning that when former LAPD Detective @DetectiveMoses found out about this hearing and that the family would have no representation from the DA's office, he attended it with the family and tried his best to advocate on their behalf and support them.
