Covid has flared up in metro St. John’s NL amid a provincial election campaign currently set for in-person voting on Sat., feb 13. Many national and sub-national elections have occurred during covid and many have been cancelled. Tough call on what to do.
But hopefully the prov can learn from other jurisdictions. If it goes ahead, elec management bodies worldwide have advice, found here fr International IDEA : https://www.idea.int/news-media/news/elections-and-covid-19-health-and-safety-polling-stations
Problem is the short lead time. Maybe the best option is to postpone, pausing or extending the campaign, so safety measure can be put in place. Saskatchewan gave municipalities power to postpone elections last fall, for eg.
Doesn’t pose a major problem in terms of governance. There’s always a gov in place. The gov doesn’t fall or “expire” on Feb 13.
