Video of @SFUnified Clarendon Elementary renaming. "Clarendon was impeached by the House of Commons for blatant violations of the "heebeus corpus" [SIC] or whatever, for having sent prisoners out of England to places like New Jersey & holding them there without benefit of trial."
The #SFUSD committee didn't understand the difference between Jersey, a small island near England off the coast of France, and the New Jersey colony which eventually became the state of New Jersey.
Edward Hyde holding people in Jersey is not an example of colonization. Also, the school not named after Edward Hyde, the 1st Earl of Clarendon. No evidence was presented by the committee for any connection between Hyde and the name of Clarendon Elementary, which opened in 1961.
A county in South Carolina is named after Hyde, but that is entirely unrelated to Clarendon Elementary. The school was named after Clarendon Avenue in San Francisco. Clarendon is a common place name in England and other countries that predates Edward Hyde.
