president trump by calling COVID-19 the "china virus." asian americans have been harassed, told "go back to your country", spat on, beat up, had acid thrown on their fucking faces simply for existing during a pandemic. (2/9)
not only has the violence continued to skyrocket in the face of lunar new year, but these hate crimes are now targeting the elderly population. how cowardly do you have to be to attack the elderly, a group of people that can't even defend themselves, physically or verbally? (3/9)
on january 28, #vicharatanapakdee, an 84yo thai man living in san fran, was pushed to the ground so forcefully that he passed away in the hospital two days later. (4/9)

asian cultures place a heavy emphasis on respecting and caring for the elderly, and these traditions are still upheld and passed on while we live in the united states. it's deeply saddening and disgusting that there is an increase in violence towards elderly asian americans (6/9)
especially with LNY around the corner, a time where families get together and celebrate. families should be able to take their aunts/uncles, grandmas/grandpas out to chinatown to buy food or decorations without worrying if this trip can end their fucking lives. (7/9)
the model minority myth has perpetuated that asian americans are quiet, passive, that they keep their heads down. the stereotype is not only damaging to the asian american community, but to other bipoc as well, but that is a discussion for another day. (8/9)
people are exploiting the fact that the older generation of asian americans will refuse to speak out on any issues, even if they are the victims of heinous crimes. if they won't speak up, we have to because no one deserves to be targeted based on their ethnicity or race. (9/9)
disclaimer: i didn’t tag the thread as racism against east asians specifically since the victims i mentioned are SE asian. i understand that racism against asians also includes west/south/central asians but i was addressing LNY/covid related instances of racism in particular
