My Revival perspective (a thread):
I was just discussing Revival and I think one of the reasons it was perceived poorly is because it sounded dated. I think if Em had released it a year after MMLP2 it would not have received that extreme amount of criticism (cont).

Many of the criticism points of Revival were used effectively in MMLP2 at least. MMLP had lots of pop featured rap ballads, Em singing his own hooks, confessional story telling. The sound of rap had changed too much by the time it was released (cont).

If released earlier I think it would have been seen as a poorly executed follow up 9most notably in the production) to MMLP2 with some high points, but overall decent enough to listen to a number of tracks (cont).

If you ask me, I think he set bad karma for himself when he didn't mirror image the E in the title for Revival and that's what sabotaged it's success. Think about out. Look at his other titles!
