A prediction thread on the new distribution engines of the next decade

✅ Pros and cons of each

Let's unroll: 🧵
1/ Creator economy is a fast-growing market and two specific platforms are interesting to me

Clubhouse and Substack

Why?

They both help you build an audience *faster* on the Internet which you can later monetize

How? By helping w distribution
2/ Distribution is king on the Internet

Similar to how back in the 90s Microsoft focussed on being available on millions of office computers, Substack and Clubhouse are gearing to own distribution in the creator economy

Millions will use one or both the platforms in 5-10 yrs
3/ They are unbundling the modern knowledge worker

Soon so many talented knowledge workers will become independent creators and build an audience on the Internet. Designers, developers, spreadsheet gurus, no-coders, marketers all of them.
4/ Substack allows these creators to build an audience using long-form content

Pros?
- easy to get started
- easy to get eye balls (thx to Substack's distribution)

Cons?
- higher fees (doesn't matter in the early days)
- lack of segmentation (same as above)
5/ Clubhouse allows creators to build an audience using live audio content and audio parties

Pros?
- easy to bring people together since audio/remote
- easy to get reach (Clubhouse is exploding)

Cons?
- learning curve? (only for beginners)
6/ These two platforms will continue to rise on the Internet as creators learn to leverage them for distribution

The other platform which is a bit noisy but still quite effective is Twitter

Except it's quite a low lift to create a tweet in 280 characters so hard to stand out
7/ Once creators build an audience, monetizing is easy

You can sell merch, collabs/affiliates, products, or software

"Audience is the new storefront"
8/ Prediction: There will be a video arm to the creator economy as well (no, it's not Youtube)

A brand new platform that will grow so fast that will make it easy to create content and get eye balls from millions of people as a knowledge worker/creator (Tik Tok? maybe)
