I'm seeing a lot of discussion on my TL today about the substances + play discourse and all I can think about is this Medium article I read yesterday about how when we picture a vegan we default to a white person because they have the time and energy to champion for
environmentalism and animal welfare, whereas for BIPOC, we're not always afforded that luxury as we're fighting for our lives and rights.

And it just makes me think about how most of the people I see tweeting about it are white (probably some sampling bias given the racial
makeup of the kink community anyways) but also how I've never seen most of them RT or talk about racism and the challenges BIPOC face in the kink scene. Most threw a #BLM into their profiles in July and a black square but that's pretty much all they've said.
And it just harkens back to this idea that this discourse is very much focused on HOW you play, whereas the bulk of my concerns are around can I even meet people that want to play with me, that don't fetishize me for my race, and that I feel safe even discussing kink with.
Because that's what another example of white privilege; not having to worry or deal with the anxieties that BIPOC have; getting to focus on what goes on in a scene and "how to be the best Dom/sub", and not the barriers to entry to the community and play
anyways sorry for rambling, events over the last few days have me feeling some type of way.

and I think the whole substances + play discourse is important but wanted to share why I don't have the energy to engage in stuff like that sometime
